Fighting negativity with positivity

As childfree women whether by circumstance or by choice, sadly most of us it seems, have been on the receiving end of prejudice, unsolicited opinion, innocuous or intrusive questioning about our status.

Do you remember our American friend Brittany’s guest post a few weeks ago about her experiences as one-half of a childfree couple and setting up her blog The RinkyDINK Life ?

She talks about coping with self-doubt and prejudice and how she overcame these and has gone on to build a successful website as a space to speak our truth.

It seemed only fair I return the favour, so I have written a guest post for The RinkyDink-Life.

What Does It Mean To Be A Women Without Kids?

In my post for her, I talk about what led me to set up The League of Fabulous Women and my journey in creating our community home It isn’t something I have ever really discussed at length before, but in the post, I really share my personal side of things and my own set of doubts. I reveal how negativity and the online nastiness I encountered almost got the better of me and stopped me in my tracks. However, after a bit of fretting, in the end, I managed to reframe things in my mind and the negativity only served to make me more determined to go for it and set up tlfw!

I hope society gets used to the idea that not all women without kids are simply militant childfree types or defined by loss, in a permanent in a state of grief or end up baby-haters. We are way more complex than this!

It sounds cliche I know but life is a series of ups and downs. I also feel the mind is an incredible magical tool and the best way to deal with negativity is to learn to take control of your thoughts and power through! Easier said than done a lot of the time, but it is possible.

Nay-sayers, do I look bothered?

I defer here to the Big Fella

Make sure you stop by The RinkyDINK Life . Brittany has recently given the site a make-over and it’s super-polished, full of great posts and useful resources, particularly for those who are childfree by choice. She talks about everything from a realist’s view of pregnancy to difficult childhoods

Thanks for having me over Brittany!

  1. Chloe,

It’s been so much fun working with you! The response to your guest post has been lovely 🙂 I love that Dalai Lama quote – I need to remind myself of that more often.
